Following approval of a project support fund grant from the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, CHwB has embarked on the project Sharing Stories, Shaping the Future: Dialogues for Spaç. This project will gather together local and national actors, representing government bodies, NGOs, direct witnesses (former prisoners and other persecuted people), historians and other experts, as well as young people, in order to conduct a series of visioning workshops for the site. Over the course of three workshops, participants will learn about the history and context of the site, share their own understanding of Spaç from different perspectives and draft a future vision for the former prison and mine. This vision document will be used to inform local and national government engagement with the site, as well as approach donors for funding of further steps to ‘activate’ the site as a place of memory and education for future generations.

The first step in this process is to consult with as many relevant stakeholders as possible, in order to include a broad range of views in the agenda and composition of the workshops.
